What goes into the cost of a garage?

A useful garage budget starts with a defined scope. Size matters, but two quotes for the same footprint can include very different work. This is a planning guide, not an AB Garage Builders price list.

Compare the same project, line by line.

Write down the proposed dimensions and the site’s current condition before requesting a price. Then ask each builder to identify what is included, what is excluded and what can change after assessment. A headline price alone is not enough to compare proposals.

What changes between 20 × 20 and 24 × 24?

A 20 × 20-foot footprint is 400 square feet; a 24 × 24-foot footprint is 576 square feet. That is 44% more footprint, not a reliable prediction of a 44% price increase. Doors, access, services and design choices do not all scale in the same way.

Use the garage size guide to compare area, then ask for a quote based on the actual specification. Dimensions alone do not establish usable interior area or vehicle capacity.

Package price, allowance or fixed quote?

Ask whether a package is supply-only or includes construction. Confirm how site-specific work is handled. An allowance is not the same as a confirmed final amount, and a preliminary estimate is not the same as a signed contract.

Request the payment schedule, change process and any warranty terms in writing before agreeing to work. This website does not advertise financing, fixed deposits or a company warranty because those business terms have not been published.

Prepare a brief that makes the next estimate more useful.

Include the city, existing site, approximate size, intended use, essential features and desired timing. Separate must-haves from optional work. Keep personal documents and photographs out of the initial enquiry.
